There was one piece of news that was kind of a side note to this all. A piece of news that should have been met with a collective “OH MY GOOOOD!!!” but instead was met with a “myeh”. Says it all really about the whole Greek debacle.
According to the new Greek head tax collector. Greece has lost EUR 42 billion in tax revenue owed to the state. As in “Oopsy I dropped my wallet in the Grand Canyon, it’s gone forever”. The thing about a sum so vast is that it is difficult to comprehend. So allow me to try. EUR 42 billion equates to EUR 3 800 per Greek citizen, every man, woman, child and old biddy.
What about if we calculate that into time? In days in a year, it is EUR 115 million per day, which makes EUR 4.7 million per hour, EUR 80 000 per minute and EUR 1 332 per second.
That right there ladies and gentlemen is why Greece is a basket case and if things continue in the current way will never, ever recover.
